My daughter is a college freshman and about to enter those final tests of the Holiday season. Oh what memories I have of that time of life! She told me she was thinking about having a little hot cocoa bar with friends - which would make a great break from the studying. I thought, "Hey I have a fabric design for this! I should make something!" So here is my Cocoa Party - ready to go in a table runner!

Supplies:
1 yard of main fabric (I used my "Get Dressed Santa!" cotton fabric from Spoonflower.)
1/2 yard of contrasting fabric for end panels. (I used red broadcloth)
Ribbon 42" long.
Thread, scissors, ruler, sewing machine, pins/clips.
Instructions:
You will need 2 pieces of your main fabric cut to 31"x 14".
Cut four pieces of contrasting panels, each are 7.5" x 14".
Cut out four pockets, each are 5" x 6".

Sew the end panel fabric to each of the main fabric pieces by placing right sides together and sewing with a 1/2" seam allowance.
You will have two long one-sided runners like you see in the photo.
Iron the seam allowances flat on the wrong side.
Next prepare the pockets.
Press the top and sides of the pockets to prepare them for hemming; 1/2" on each side, 1" on the top and 1/2" on the bottom. (I know it looks like 1" hem in the photo, but I changed my mind and re-pressed the sides to 1/2" to fit more goodies in the pockets.)

Pressing the 5 x 6" pockets Sew the top of each pocket close to the raw edge of the 1" hem.
Sew the sides of each pocket close to the fold edge.
You can leave the bottom of each pocket unsewn until attaching to the runner.

Each pocket is attached to the runner 6 1/2" from the side panel seam and 1" up from the raw edge. Sew the four pockets onto the runner making sure to leave the top of each pocket open for adding goodies later! Sew the sides and bottom close to the edge, about 1/8", pivoting at the corners and backstitching at the top sides.
Place the runner with the pockets, and the runner without pockets right sides together, matching seams. Sew all the way around with a 1/2" seam leaving one opening for turning. Clip corners.

I left a generous opening on one end for turning right side out. Turn right side out. Finger press the opening closed and then topstitch all around the runner 1/2". Press.
Enjoy adding all the goodies you need for the Cocoa Bar Party! I added cocoa packets, marshmallows, peppermint stir sticks, spoons and striped straws. You could also add tiny invitations or sprinkles!
Need to ship to someone in need of a quick cocoa bar? This runner is a portable party! Just roll it up and tie with your ribbon.
